There are a lot of opinions out there about to monetize or not monetize your blog. I clearly have sided with the camp that it’s ok to use the medium to create some kind of income. There are a number of reasons for this but for this post I want to focus on just one unexpected benefit I’ve found by the use of google AdSense. A daily laugh!

AdSense works with the content on your page to find relevant advertising for that content. The results of those ads for the content I have on the blog has cracked me up. Here are a few of the ad headlines I’ve seen:

  • Your Blog is Ugly
  • Things not to say at Work
  • YOU DON’T NEED A CONTEST!
  • You Never Win
  • Prepare to be Shocked

My friend Steve first pointed this out in the past on his site. By creating a topic or headline one would see some pretty humorous ad headlines. While this was not my intention, a few days ago the “your blog is ugly” ad had caught my eye and made me laugh. Was someone trying to communicate with me? (I am not nor will be writing to see what kind of headlines can be found.)

Here’s an idea. I am watching these creative headlines that may appear naturally in the course of the posts I write. When I see a rather humorous one, I think I will use it to create a future post. Your blog is ugly title would work very well with a post discussing blog themes —– or the about me page should I post my picture.

If you see an ad headline that makes you smile, would you do me a favor and leave a comment about. If I use it for a post, I’ll give you credit and an award …. award? Yes, those are in the plans for those contests I don’t need!
