Hey Phil,

Great blog! I have been losing focus with my blog. I honestly don't think I'm doing anything to stand out, so it's time to make some changes. I try to be as clever as I can with my blog post titles and add strategic words for tags. So far, I have 95,050 hits, but I'll bet most are spam lol.

Any suggestions?

Time, love and tenderness...just like the Michael Bolton song. But personally, I don't believe in the american dream anymore unfortunately.

Hi Leo -- As far as keywords go, I know that the relevancy has to be both in regard to the blob and the post. I like the focus of keeping committed to your passion/subject, and write the titles just like one would write into the search bar. I encourage you to keep thinking of an interest with a curious or passionate audience.

***Great. ANOTHER Ashley Qualls.*** :) I hope you got a chance to read about the second story....it's the one that had the greatest impact for me.

"Can you really make money, let alone big money, with a blog?"

Considering my track record, not me, thats for sure. :-)

"the founder of MacRumors.com deciding this month to go into being a full time blogger. He, by the way, was an M.D. What began eight years ago as his hobby, is now a full blown six-figure a year business and a blog valued well into seven figures."

Great. ANOTHER Ashley Qualls.

Ah, thats just my jealousy talking. Actually, I agree with your summary.

"Initial design was NOT important. The sites were not really attractive when they got started. It seems that the information found there was the draw"

This is true. When I'm doing a search on google, I'm looking for INFORMATION. It will bring me the more informative sites, not just the best looking ones.

"big secret to relevant search engine traffic was the wording of the post’s Title"

This is a big handicap for me. I've always heard that certain "keywords" can help increase traffic to ones website. But it hardly works out for me. One time as a test, I looked up the most "looked up", the most searched keywords. I then added those keywords, over 500 of them, into my website. My visitors peaked at about a couple of hundred for one day, then came down to earth at a few dozen a day. I got rid of the keywords.
