Visiting Grand Canyon: Part 1 Landing at Grand Canyon Airport
Grand Canyon National Park is located in Northern Arizona, approximately 175 miles north of Phoenix. On a recent visit by my daughter to Phoenix, I found she had never seen the Grand Canyon! I had only seen it once before myself. This past December 12, we took off from Deer Valley Airport with Westwind Tours and had a fantastic trip to one of the the seven wonders of the world.
I have to thank my brother Scott and his wife Melanie for gifting us the tour. It was a very memorable way to see this national park.
We arrived at the Westwind Tour building at Deer Valley and met our pilot, Jeff Larson. He explained our itinerary. It was going to be about an hour and a half flight which included flying into and over the Grand Canyon. I was thinking this sure beat the five plus hour drive it would have been just to get to the South Rim!
We took off just before 8 A.M. Our group was just my daughter Beth, me, Jeff, and Sue, a visitor from Canada. Here is our arrival into the airport at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was a great flight.
Part 2 will include some of the highlights from the flight.

Wow Phil! What a great gift! Flying over the Grand Canyon in a small plane must have been quite a treat!

It was to be sure! It was more like flying into the Grand Canyon as we didn’t actually cross it. It is huge! I have to admit, I was just a little anxious being in a SMALL plane.
Why is it I would grab for a brace or something if there was a bump! Like that was going to save my a$$. The thought crossed my mind a few times of small planes in the past going down — into the Canyon.
